A Battle of Wills

Sadly, I think the "terrible 2's" have finally hit my sweet Seery. It's been about 2 weeks. She has become extremely picky about what she wants and very bossy to all who cross her path. It has taken me 2 hours every night to get her to stay in her bed and sleep. It is a complete nightmare getting her into her car seat if we are not going to a place that she likes. Lately she has become a drama queen who is not easily satisfied to the point of throwing some award winning temper tantrums that quite frankly embarrass me. And then all of a sudden she stops screaming and crying as quickly as she started and is once again fine. Oh, and time out does not deter her. This is new territory for me. Aidan was never like this. I could negotiate with him better, I could always calm him, and he did not carry on like this. Seery has always been such an adorably sweet child. I know this is a phase. I am just trying to keep my sanity and would love any advice from you moms who have successfully come out on the other side of the "terrible 2's"!

The 5 Tag

10 Years Ago: I had finished my freshman year at BYU (a very fun year with a surprisingly good GPA considering I pulled many all nighters having some good times!) and went back home to CA for the Spring Semester so I could work at AAA as a receptionist to earn some extra cash.

5 Years Ago: I had been married for 8 months. I was pregnant with our first child-- and loved learning how he was growing and changing every week. I was working as a manager for Stein Mart--my favorite job of all time. I miss the people I worked with!

5 Months Ago: I was gearing up for an exciting Christmas. Aidan was a gift in his first Christmas program ever. You really feel like a mom watching your child on stage in a school program!

5 Things I would do if I were suddenly a billionaire: Pay off debt--including house, travel extensively, put away and invest money for retirement and kids' college tuition, pay off every one's mortgages in both of our families, build my dream house in Ireland and live there indefinitely.

Our Hero of the Week

Last weekend is when it hit. The stomach bug that is. Seery woke up Friday night throwing up. David was next to catch the virus, and he almost NEVER gets sick. I thought maybe I would escape it, but no such luck, by Sunday I had joined Seery and David. I have to say I have never been sick with my husband, which was a real experience that I would be ever so happy to NOT repeat ever again! Aidan, somehow never got the bug and I think enjoyed watching lots of movies while the rest of us were upstairs sicker than we have ever been. I ended up in the ER on Monday because I was severely dehydrated. So David called his little brother, Brian, and asked if he could come over to watch the kids. Luckily he wasn't busy and was able to come. Aidan and Seery love their Uncle Brian so this was a real treat to hang out with him. He even made them dinner! Seery was still sick, but he took great care of her, and cleaned the carpet after she got sick. So I think he is our hero of the week for braving our germs to help out. Sadly though, Brian too got sick by Tuesday night. We are so sorry you got sick too!

Seery Riding her Red Tricycle

Seery was just the cutest girl today with her cute outfit. You gotta love her funky tights! She requested pig tails and ribbons for her hair before we had even had breakfast this morning. She had a great time riding a bike that was just her size. She always says that pink is her favorite color (notice her clothes), but her new bike is red and luckily that is close enough!

Outside Play

We made it outside this morning just in time before the cold, wind, and snow hit! They enjoyed driving their Cozy Coupe around the driveway and filling it up with gas. Seery is thrilled with her new red tricycle we picked up earlier this morning. It just fits her. Her favorite part is the ribbons on the handlebars.

Girl Time

Aidan is in preschool every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a few hours. David takes him to preschool and then heads off to work. That's when the fun known as "girl time" begins. I make a big deal out of the time Seery and I have together. She looks forward to having alone time with her mom as much I as enjoy just having that one-on-one time with her. Sometimes we go shopping, we might take a long drive, go somewhere for a treat, or just stay home and watch a girl show together like "Strawberry Shortcake" or "Hannah Montana". And as soon as the weather warms up we will be able to go for a walk and swing at the park. It has been snowing again this week, so I have to say I really enjoyed curling up with her underneath a down comforter watching a show she picked. It doesn't get better than that. (The picture above was taken when we went shoe shopping a few weeks ago. She loves fancy shoes and purses!)

Enough Already!

I have decided that it would be so nice if we could get through a week without people coming to our door selling something. Recently we have had people trying to sell us fruit off their truck, a $2,000 vacuum, lawn services, an alarm system which isn't really free, milk and food that can be delivered weekly, the amazing organic cleaning solution that only costs $45 a bottle, and water softeners (which by the way why would anyone pay $2000 for one? We bought ours for under $800 at Lowe's.). That's what immediately comes to mind anyways. These sales people always come at the worst times too. For us it's always at lunch or dinnertime or just as we are walking out the door to leave. They can see it's not a good time and they keep talking even after you have politely refused. I'm just surprised because I have never had so may people coming door to door selling anything before. I guess I will have to start looking before I answer the door!

Boys will be Boys

Tonight both kids wanted to drink apple juice with their dinner. I poured Seery's into her sippy cup. I went to get Aidan a cup, turned around and found my son doing this. I guess there comes a day in every boy's life where he will do the inevitable... drink straight out of the bottle. I asked him why he didn't wait for me to pour it for him and he said, "Mom there wasn't very much left, so it's ok to drink out of the bottle." Hmmmm.......wonder who he learned that one from?!
